Since sin came into the world, humankind was under the dominion of darkness power, and so many consequences have come as the result of the choice that the first human being has made (Adam). Different scholars through history define sin as missing the goal, or a transgression toward God’s law. The Bible itself present sin as an inheritance, and Paul declares: “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Ro 5:12). Furthermore, he says that: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Ro 3:23). Also, sin is considered as a debt and make all sinners prisoners and slaves, because of that Paul again says that: “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law” (Gal 3:13).
Above all of these definitions and facts, God’s first decision after human was sinned, was restoration, not punishment. The Bible declares that: “The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them” (Ge 3:21). This is a kind of typology in the Old Testament that point to Jesus as the Lamb of God to take the sin of all human being. But as well he put out human in the garden to face the consequences of their choice. Further God declares: “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel” (Ge 3:15). The Bible scholars interprets that verse as the pro-gospel, which is God’s promise of a redeemer who will come to defeat the evil in this world and died for all sinners.
In the book of Genesis 3 after sin came into the world, we obviously see it’s consequence in chapter 4 when Cain decided to kill his brother. Then we understand sin is not only bad decision making but as well a state of being, a nature. Later in chapter 6, we read that: “The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time” (Ge 6:5). And ultimately God has judged them and killed every people on the face of the earth except for Noah and his family. Even though God has killed those people, the nature of sin was always there, and we inherit it from the generation of those who came out of the ark as themselves inherit it from Adam and Eve.
Throughout the Old Testament we see God does not forsake his plan to redeem the mankind. He has called different people from different generation. We read about men like Noah, Abraham, Moses. And regarding Abraham he has declared: “ I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing” (Ge 12:2). Moses during his time prophesied that: “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him (Dt 18:15). During the reign of the kings God has chosen prophets to bring forth his word, some of those prophets has prophesied about the coming of Jesus as the Messiah, the redeemer. Isaiah who is considered as the messianic prophet is the one who gives more prophesies about Jesus. He declares that : “The virgin[d] will conceive and give birth to a son, and[e] will call him Immanuel” (Isa 7:14).
And the famous chapter 53 in the book of Isaiah is all about the messiah. Micah for himself has prophesied the place of birth of the messiah. Micah says that: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times” (Mi 5:2). In the New Testament Paul declares: ... when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ (Eph 1:10). The first announcement about Christ was made by Gabriel the messenger who talked to Mary about the child that she will conceive. Mary answers: “I am the Lord’s servant “May your word to me be fulfilled (Lk 1:38). This is a prove that God has planned everything from above down to the earth. John Baptist toward Jesus has declared: “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). which is the accomplishment of what God has done for Adam and Eve, and later on that lamb will die on the cross to cover every people with justice when they accept to put their faith in him.
Jesus since the beginning of his ministry in Galilea was preaching about the kingdom of God, he has invited people to repent of their sins to enter God’s kingdom. He has healed the sick, cast out demons, raise the dead, and free the captives. Himself has declared: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free” (Lk 4:18). Other statements were made by Jesus to show that he is the messiah, he declares that: “ I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty (John 6:35). Furthermore, he says that: “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me (John 10:14). After all, the religious leaders compromise and conspire against him and cause him to die on the cross which exactly why he has come. Paul declares: On the cross he has taken our curse (Gal 3:13). Jesus hanging on the cross is the payment of the price God required for the sin, it is the accomplishment of God promise of a redeemer, it is the confirmation of Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”.
Regarding his sacrifice on the cross he declares: “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). Furthermore, `Paul declares: “ If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Ro 10:9). After Christ has resurrected this is what he said: “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you“ (John 20:21). And yet, he declares: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Mt 28:19).
